Director

 

As a choral director for the Surfside Sharks, Mr. Mullen is dedicated to imparting his knowledge and passion for music. He holds two Bachelor of Arts degrees from Huntingdon College and is working towards a Master’s in Educational Leadership at Florida State University.

Since 2007, he has been an integral part of the Surfside team, where his exemplary performance as a director has led to superior and excellent ratings at Florida Vocal Association adjudications and highly effective teacher evaluations. In recognition of his outstanding work, Mr. Mullen was honored as the Surfside Teacher of the Year in 2011.

Before his tenure at Surfside, he taught elementary music from kindergarten through fifth grade at Tyndall Elementary (autumn 2004 to autumn 2007) and Oscar Patterson Magnet School (autumn 2000 to autumn 2004). His initial teaching role involved being an adjunct mathematics instructor at his alma mater, A. Crawford Mosley High School (autumn 1998 to autumn 2000).

Mr. Mullen possesses a diverse professional background, encompassing positions such as resident assistant, assistant director of residential life, resident director, and housing coordinator at Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama. He has also served as a church pianist for various Montgomery and Panama City congregations and as the pianist for Living Word Church, a position he has held since 1998.

Beyond his professional capacities, Mr. Mullen has amassed educational and instructional experiences from preschool to collegiate levels in secular and religious settings.
